When everyone in the industry is playing by one set of rules, it’s time to change the rules. It’s time to operate on a different playing field, to differentiate yourself. This industry has been operating by a certain set of rules for so long, insurance agencies benchmark themselves against other insurance agencies. I believe the benchmark is against other customer service organizations, like a Nordstroms, like a Ritz-Calrton, like a Disney. It’s time for us to change the rules, change the playing field. Establish a unique brand. And I think the time is now. I think the landscape of the business world is changing. It’s no longer the good ol’ boy network, it’s no longer the firms that have been around for sixty or seventy years, calling you up, taking you to lunch, saying, “Trust me,” Doing it on a handshake. The millennial generation is actively engaging, they are growing into business and positions of leadership in business. They are more focused on efficiency, on time, on quality of life, on personal. They are not so consumed by business. They want to interact with us in a fashion that is highly professional, highly engaged, sensing what their needs are before they need it. Solving the problems before they exist and not necessarily just showing up and taking them to lunch and giving them a call and going out and playing golf. I believe that as a result of our reinvestment in the company, the things we’ve done on point of sale, our focus in 2014 around customer service, our belief in changing the playing field – in being different to stand out, is really why the time for Alliance is now and why I’m so excited about 2014.
